Kura Art

Ruma Tahi have been learning about what makes a good society and how we can contribute to this. The key words we learnt about are:
  • Citizen
  • Society
  • Culture
  • Country
We then discussed how we can link these ideas to our Kura and in our own classroom. The main idea was to show our Kura Values of: Respect, Responsible, and Resilient.

Next, we created artwork to show how our kura links to these ideas. The tamariki expressed their ideas differently and were able to talk about their artwork explaining the main ideas around the type of society we wanted, how to be a good citizen and the classroom culture we wanted to support out mahi and each other.

Here are some example of what we created:

Passport Art

As a class we have been learning about passports and how they are an important document to citizens that live in a country.

We found out the definition of a passport, we read a text about what is a passport, and we watched a video about how to take a passport photo and the regulations and rules of what that photo needs.

We then experimented taking photos of ourselves, as if we were taking a passport picture. We thought about the backgrounds, our facial expressions, how much of ourselves needed to be in the picture, and the lighting.

We came up with a success criteria of:
-No shadows
-Light is behind us
-Clear and empty background
-Straight and plain face
-From our shoulders to just above our hair
-The camera should be taken straight in front, not on an angle

Once we chose our picutre, we added it to the document and filled in some information too.

As a class, we then critiqued each others pictures to see if we had followed all the correct steps and regulations.

Here are the results!

Room 1's way

Room 1 have been reading 'Aroha's Way' and talking about our emotions and what makes us feel better. We understand that everyone reacts differently to the same situations, and have different ways to feel better. We then created our own digital book about our different emotions and how we feel better.

Throw those stinky words in the trash!

Room 1 has been looking at extending our vocabulary. We created a brainstorm of different words to use instead of ones like "said" or "went". This will help us make our writing more exciting for the reader.
